SPIN! Pizza Missouri, Kansas, Texas Locations Make Big Changes Including Name

Following Testing and Customer Survey, SPIN! Pizza Implements Changes to Deliver Even Better Value and Experience

KANSAS CITY, MO (Dec. 21, 2018) When SPIN! Pizza opens on Dec. 26 following the Christmas holiday, its Missouri, Kansas and Texas locations will have made the biggest changes in its 13-year history, including a slightly altered name and updated logo. The changes were guided by extensive testing at one Kansas City location and feedback from a guest survey on the perception of SPIN! in the current restaurant environment. The now officially named SPIN! Pizza — which was founded in 2005 as SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza – will roll out the changes at its Nebraska, California and Warrensburg, MO, locations in the first quarter.

Known for its award-winning, fresh, artisan food in an atmosphere that appeals to all ages, SPIN! Pizza is focused on delivering an even better value and enhanced experience, says Founding Partner Ed Brownell.

Simplified new menu boards make it easier to order and almost all the Italian words have been replaced with easier-to-pronounce English equivalents. Exciting new food and beverage options have been added. Changes were made not only in the restaurants but also online with a new, easier to navigate web site that includes images of all food items, information about vegan and gluten free options, and more.

“Our new menu, inspired by James Beard Award-Winning Chef Michael Smith who helps develop our menu, has been in test mode at a Kansas City location since summer,” says Brownell, who has extensive experience in multi-unit operations. “Based on feedback from our guest survey, the revised menu has been a huge success. We look forward to offering it in all of our restaurants.”

One of SPIN!’s new menu items is a larger 14 inch pizza offered in addition to the original 12 inch and 7 inch pizza sizes. Guests can create their own pizza or choose from a pared down list of 12 popular signature pizzas including a newly added Double Pepperoni. Topped with double the cheese and double the pepperoni, the sauce on the Double Pepperoni is a new “zesty red” made from a combination of SPIN!’s own herbed olive oil glaze and its traditional red sauce. In addition to these three sauces, a BBQ flavored pizza sauce will be offered.

Guests also have the option of creating a custom pizza by choosing the size, crust, sauce and their favorite toppings from a selection of over 30 meats, vegetables, nuts and more. Most pizzas on the retired menu still can be made in the restaurants, even if they aren’t listed on the menu.

Although the Arugula and Chopped BLT salads will no longer appear on the menu, the BLT salad still can be made at all locations. In addition, some locations will continue to stock arugula for guests who request the Arugula salad. Added to the menu will be a Chicken Cobb salad piled high with impeccably seasoned roasted chicken, creamy avocados, chopped eggs, grape tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese and bacon on a bed of fresh lettuce with a ranch dressing. The Chicken Cobb can be made gluten-free with the request of gluten free flatbread on the side instead of the traditional flatbread.

The sandwiches from the old menu have been replaced with two delicious new selections. The first is a Turkey Bacon Avocado with a fresh, Farm-to-Market baguette shmeared with creamy mayo and topped with slices of perfectly cooked turkey, crispy bacon, fresh avocado, ripe tomato, lettuce, crunchy onions and smooth white cheddar cheese. The second sandwich, the Italian, is a meat lover’s feast. It starts with thinly sliced Genoa salami, soppressata, capicola, and black forest ham then is layered with mayo, red wine vinegar, olive oil, classic provolone, lettuce, crisp onions, and juicy tomatoes piled high on a toasted baguette. Sandwiches are paired with chips or, for a small upcharge, guests can substitute salad or soup.

SPIN! Pizza’s original “Trio” dip appetizer will be replaced with a “Duo” featuring the popular White Bean Hummus and Roasted Red Pepper & Goat Cheese dips. The Stuffed Mondo Pork Meatball, Roasted Eggplant, flatbread, and individual house-made dips will continue to be served.

SPIN!’s guest survey showed that patrons did not come to SPIN! for bottles of wine but, instead, wanted great wines by the glass. SPIN!’s wine sommelier has carefully crafted an improved wine selection with wines being served by the glass or carafe. SPIN! also will offer a BYOV (Bring Your Own Vino) for a small $5 corking fee. Other adult beverages include beer on tap, bottled beer and SPIN!’s two house-made Red and Blood Orange sangrias.

Those who love SPIN!’s authentic gelato made with real ingredients will now be able to enjoy the original small and large personal sized portions as well as two new options, pints and tubs, ideal for parties or catering.

Awarded numerous honors for its food, atmosphere and business acumen, SPIN! Pizza has 11 locations in its hometown market of Greater Kansas City including college towns Warrensburg, Mo. and Lawrence, Ks. as well as locations in Texas, Nebraska and California.

TALENTED PARK HILL SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL ART
STUDENTS PAINT HOLIDAY WINDOWS AT SPIN! PIZZA

On a cold, sunny afternoon, students from Park Hill South High School (PHSHS) spent several hours painting holiday artwork on the windows of SPIN! Pizza in the Village at Burlington Creek for the community to enjoy. Seniors in Meg Carson’s Studio Art class, who are planning careers in art, were given an opportunity to try a new technique while sharing their colorful holiday designs with the community.

“We are so happy to provide a platform for these talented students to display their art while helping SPIN! Pizza and our guests celebrate the holidays,” says SPIN! Founding Partner Ed Brownell. “We appreciate their time and energy and are excited to share their beautiful artwork with our guests and the community.”

After SPIN! Pizza reached out with an invitation for her students to paint the windows followed by a pizza party to thank them for their artwork, teacher Meg Carson challenged her students to create sketches that incorporate both a holiday theme and pizza. Several students’ designs were incorporated in the paintings that now decorate SPIN! Pizza’s windows.

With the students planning careers in art, many of them and their teacher said this was a great opportunity for them to work with a “client”.

“It gives them a chance to problem solve and come up with some combination of the holiday and pizza and then an opportunity to serve the community and share their skills with the Northland,” says PHSHS Art Teacher Meg Carson.

“I think it’s a really cool opportunity,” says student Marcus Klein. “I haven’t actually been able to work for any businesses so it’s kind of unique to actually get out in the community and not just in a studio or, in one case, an abandoned parking garage. It’s kind of nice so you are excited to show your art to the community at large or certain people that you want to bring to see it.”

Another student, Trinity McConnell, plans to bring her family and friends to see the windows as well as post the artwork on social media.  “I think it’s really inspirational and a way to connect with the community and have your art seen on an individual basis and in a group setting,” she says.

“It was a cool way to let us take the wheel and come up with ideas. We could help each other with ideas and help each other improve and maybe make a little twist on something.”

Rylie Sims agrees that “part of what was fun about this was getting to work as a group”. While the work she does in class is usually an individual endeavor, she really liked the opportunity to take part in a collaborative effort.

Sims, who had previously painted on glass, said she liked the new challenge of painting on a window. “I had never painted on a window before so it was a unique experience. I have painted on glass but I have never painted vertically so it was fun. I’m stepping back and it looked really good.”

Allegra Eccles had never painted on glass. “It’s really fun to do and very different. The paint doesn’t stick as well because the surface is rough but it looks very smooth. The sunlight coming through the window just makes everything light up and look so pretty.”

Student Stephen Quattlebaum said that he likes the idea that people driving past SPIN! Pizza during the holidays will see the PHSHS students’ artwork on the windows. “You don’t have to be a person entirely invested in art to know that you like a design that’s being shown on somebody’s window,” he says.

To see the students’ artwork, visit SPIN! Pizza in the Village at Burlington Creek, 6100 NW 63rd Terrace in Kansas City, MO. For more information, visit www.spinpizza.com.

Thursday, Oct. 11 it’s Time to Celebrate America’s Second Favorite Pizza Topping

October 10, 2018

KANSAS CITY, MO (Oct. 10, 2018) It’s time to celebrate one of America’s favorite and most versatile pizza toppings on Thursday, Oct. 11, National Sausage Pizza Day. Kansas City’s own SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza, with 11 locations spread across the metro and Lawrence, is celebrating the day with a variety of sausage pizza options.

Sausage is America’s second favorite topping and is ordered on 14 percent of all pizzas. Part of what makes it so popular is that its flavor mixes so well with a variety of sweet and savory pairings says James Beard Award winning Chef Michael Smith, who helps develop SPIN! Pizza’s recipes. In SPIN!’s case, it also has to do with the quality of the sausage which comes from long-time Kansas City favorite Scimeca’s.

SPIN! features Scimeca’s sausage on three signature sausage pizzas or guests can create their own unique combinations. The most traditional signature sausage option is SPIN!’s Tre Carni (three meat) pizza that combines perfectly seasoned sausage, with bite-size meatballs and flavorful pepperoni on a bed of red sauce and cheese. A second red-sauce pizza — the Salsiccia (Italian sausage) & Carmelized Onions — marries the flavor of robustly seasoned sausage with the sweetness of carmelized onions.

Sausage also comes into full bloom when partnered with fruit as on SPIN!’s Salsiccia Con Mela pizza which combines authentic Italian sausage, sweet fresh apple slices and crushed glazed pecans on a white pizza with roasted garlic olive oil glaze.

Known for its restaurants that appeal to all ages, SPIN! has convenient locations in Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe, Prairie Village, south of the Plaza, Crown Center, the Northland, Lee’s Summit, Warrensburg and Lawrence.

KC’s Own SPIN! Pizza Invites Public to Help Test Exciting Menu

Changes, Get Free Gelato for Opinion at Main St. Location

South Plaza Pizzeria Closed July 9-10, Reopens July 11 Testing

Changes to Make SPIN! An Even Better Value and Experience

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 10, 2018) Starting Wednesday, July 11, you can get a free gelato for sharing your opinion with SPIN! Pizza about all the exciting menu changes it’s testing only at its 4950 Main Street location.

Kansas City’s own SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza, founded in 2005 in Overland Park, is trying out lots of changes designed to make SPIN! an even better value at its 11 locations spread across the metro and Lawrence. Ranging from a simplified menu board designed to make ordering easier, fewer Italian words, and a shift in menu items and beverages, SPIN! is exploring numerous new ways to give guests an enhanced experience.

For the first time, SPIN! Pizza fans will have a choice of a new larger 14 inch pizza. Priced at $15 for one of SPIN!’s Signature pizzas, the 14 inch pies start at $12 for SPIN! Your Own creations. SPIN!’s traditional 12 inch Signature pizzas now start at $12 with SPIN! Your Own pizzas beginning at $9. Topping prices have been reduced to $1 each, with no additional charge for more than 3 toppings.

Guests can choose from a pared down menu of SPIN!’s signature pizzas or design SPIN! Your Own pizzas by choosing the crust, sauce, meats, cheeses, and veggies/nuts/etc. Where options previously included either traditional red sauce or herbed garlic olive oil glaze, guests now can choose from one of five sauces: red, zesty red, herbed garlic olive oil glaze, BBQ or Alfredo.

The new zesty red sauce combines SPIN!’s traditional red sauce with its herbed garlic olive oil glaze to create a unique flavor-packed red sauce. This sauce is the base for SPIN!’s new double pepperoni pizza, which tops the zesty red sauce with thick layers of mozzarella, provolone and fontina cheeses and double the already generously portioned pepperoni.

Also new on the menu, a large salad can be added to any 12 or 14 inch pizza for only $7. While arugula salad will no longer be offered, SPIN!’s salad selection will grow with the addition of SPIN!’s Classic Italian Salad and Cobb Salad.

Piled high with impeccably seasoned roasted chicken, creamy avocados, chopped eggs, juicy grape tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese and flavorful Italian pancetta on a bed of fresh lettuce, SPIN!’s gluten-free Chicken Cobb comes topped with made-from-scratch buttermilk ranch dressing. SPIN!’s Classic Italian Salad delivers succulent grape tomatoes, glistening artichokes, crisp red onion, savory Kalamata olives, spicy sopressata and aromatic pepperonicini atop a bed of lettuce finished off with fresh shaved grana padana cheese, crunchy farmhouse croutons, and homemade red wine vinaigrette.

For those who prefer their Italian deli meats piled high on a crusty Farm to Market baguette, SPIN! has a new Italian Sandwich. A meat lover’s feast of thinly sliced Genoa salami, soppressata, capicola, and black forest ham is matched with classic provolone, crisp lettuce and onion, juicy tomato, mayo, tangy red wine vinegar, and olive oil.

A second new sandwich — Turkey Bacon Avocado served on a fresh baguette shmeared with creamy mayo — features slices of perfectly cooked roasted turkey, crispy bacon, fresh avocado, ripe tomato, lettuce, crunchy onions and smooth white cheddar cheese.

On the test menu, guests can choose either a deli sandwich paired with chips or a half deli sandwich served with their choice of half salad for $9.50. Soups will no longer be served.

Those who love SPIN!’s rotating roster of authentic gelato ice creams made in small batches with real fruits and nuts can now enjoy the original small and large personal-sized portions as well as two new options — pints and tubs — ideal for carry-out.

Under the new menu, guests still will be welcome to bring bottles of wine for a $5 corking fee, but bottles of wine will not be available for purchase. Instead, a carefully curated selection of premium wines at great new reduced prices will be offered by the glass($5), half carafe($8) and full carafe($15). Four reds (cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, chianti, and rosso) as well as three whites (chardonnay, pinot gris and moscato) will be poured. Two house-made sangrias, a red sangria and a blood orange created from top quality wines, also will be served year-round.

While no new appetizers will be added to the starters portion of the menu, two appetizers — the Calabrian shrimp and eggplant parmesan — will no longer be offered.  The other SPIN! starters – including a variety of fresh, house-made dips — will continue to be served as well as a new single serve dip with a piece of flatbread for just $1.

SPIN!, which is known for its restaurants that appeal to all ages, will test the new menu and conduct the survey for at least a month and possibly into the fall.

In addition to its 4950 Main Street location just south of the Plaza, SPIN! Pizza has convenient locations in Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe, Prairie Village, Crown Center, the Northland, Lee’s Summit, Warrensburg and Lawrence.

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 4, 2014) Honored with numerous awards for its food and concept, locally owned and operated SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza’s just-built location in South Overland Park’s Corbin Park Retail Village is now open. The General Manager of the new location, Molly McClure, began as a server 10 years ago when the first SPIN! ® opened further north in Overland Park.

The Corbin Park restaurant is the eighth metro area location for the locally owned and operated pizzeria known for its exceptional, artisan food made from fresh ingredients without the gourmet price and distinct, inviting atmosphere that appeals to all ages.

The newest SPIN! Pizza is located at 6510 W. 135th St., directly across from the almost-completed Scheels All Sports. With 3,800 square feet, the restaurant has seating for 122 in the dining room, another 10 seats at the bar, and space for 40 on its outdoor patio.

“In 2005, when we opened our first location on 119th Street in Overland Park, SPIN! was one of the nation’s first Neapolitan-style pizzerias,” says Ed Brownell, a Partner in SPIN! Pizza. “We are excited to open a second location in Overland Park serving the booming residential and commercial development that’s taken place to the south of our original location. And it’s a special thrill that the General Manager has been with us since we opened the doors of our first location.”

McClure was an 18-year-old senior at Blue Valley North High School, with an eye on a culinary career, when she began as a server/cashier at SPIN! Pizza. At 22, she was promoted to a salaried management position before being named a general manger two years ago. This is the first time she will open a new location. McClure says that she loves working at SPIN! because the employees are like family and the award-winning food is freshly made on site. “SPIN! is great because it’s a scratch kitchen. It’s not like a big corporate where everything comes prepared for you and you just put things together. It’s neat to be somewhere you can actually cook,” she says.

SPIN!’s recipes are developed in collaboration with James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Smith, who also was just named national Chef Innovator of the Year. In addition to a diverse selection of traditional thin-and-bubbly crust, rustic whole wheat, and gluten-free pizzas, SPIN! serves a tremendous selection of fresh salads topped with made-from-scratch dressings, homemade soups, signature Panini and Italian deli sandwiches, appetizers, small plates, and all-natural gelato ice creams.

SPIN! is best known for its eclectic, affordable premium wines priced well below traditional restaurant prices and hand-spun, stone-fired pizzas.

SPIN!’s pizza dough is made fresh every day using several types of flour and its gluten free crust is renowned for its flavor and texture. SPIN! offers both traditional Pizza Rossa (red pizzas with crushed tomato sauce) and Pizza Bianca (white pizzas with roasted garlic olive oil glaze), and many hand-grated cheeses. Dairy-free cheese also is available.

SPIN! takes the unique step of boosting flavors by roasting pizza toppings including mushrooms, caramelized onions, artichokes, and even capers, pecans, pineapple, pine nuts, pancetta, and more in herbed olive oil in its stone hearth ovens each day.

Known for a rotating roster of affordable premium bottled and barrel wines, SPIN! also makes homemade white, red and blood orange sangrias and offers a selection of craft beers.

In addition to its wines and artisan menu, SPIN! is recognized for its convenient service model. Guests place their orders at a counter in the restaurant’s ordering lobby and then relax at their tables where servers deliver their food and beverages. This lets guests control their time whether they’re in a hurry or in the mood to leisurely hang out.

Ranked number one by Zagat among Kansas City area pizza restaurants, SPIN!® has been awarded “best pizza” by numerous local publications, and honored for the city’s best gluten-free menu. SPIN! also has won a number of national and regional honors. It was listed among the “Rest of the 101 Best Restaurants” in the nation by TheDailyMeal.com, one of the most heavily visited “foodie” websites in the country, its Margherita Pizza was crowned one of the nation’s best dishes of the year by a trade magazine, and its architecture won Best of Show at the Mid America Design Awards.

The Corbin Park SPIN! is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The phone number is 913-897-7746.

SPIN! has locations under construction in the Northland’s Burlington Creek Shopping Center and Warrensburg’s University of Central Missouri. SPIN! currently has locations in Crown Center, midtown Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Mo. and in Overland Park, Olathe, Prairie Village and Lenexa, Ks.

KANSAS CITY, MO (April 1, 2015) – Finally! After years of being asked when Kansas City’s SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza would open a Northland location, the answer is later this year. SPIN!®, honored with numerous awards for its food and concept, will open its first location north of the river in the Burlington Creek Shopping Center site formerly occupied by All Star Pizza & Pub.

SPIN! takes the unique step of roasting its pizza toppings in stone hearth ovens every day to bring out the most flavorful notes of each meat, vegetable, and topping including even nuts and capers. SPIN!’s pizza toppings, ingredients, homemade soups, and made-from-scratch salad dressings are prepared daily from fresh produce and meats.

Known for a rotating roster of affordable premium wines, SPIN! also makes homemade white, red and blood orange sangrias and offers a selection of craft beers.

The Northland SPIN! will be located at 6100 N.W. 63rdTerrace in Kansas City, Mo. SPIN! also has locations in midtown Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Mo. and in Overland Park, Olathe, Prairie Village and Lenexa, Ks. Two more area locations are under construction in Overland Park’s Corbin Park Retail Village and on Warrensburg’s University of Central Missouri campus.
